Dorsey’s fall golf season at Seattle University was one of continued growth and improvement. A year ago, Dorsey finished her first college fall season with a stroke average of 80.7. This fall she finished her second fall season with a stroke average of 77.8, a testament to all her handwork over the summer.
In the first tournament of the season at Palouse Ridge in Pullman, WA (hosted by Washington State University), Dorsey played strong, consistent golf (75-75-77-227) on a course that she struggled with the previous year. She placed 21st overall out of 58 players.
In her second tournament of the season at Langdon Farms in Aurora, OR (hosted by Portland State University), Dorsey shot one over in the first round, while finishing the last two rounds strong enough to place 20th out of 73 players with a 73-77-79-229.
The last two tournaments of the season, the University of Washington’s at Sahalee County Club east of Seattle, and Seattle University’s own, the inaugural Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational at the Tacoma Country Club near Tacoma, WA, proved challenging.
At the very tight, difficult Sahalee Country Club, it makes for a long day if you’re not spot on. The University of Washington was ranked #1 in the nation at the end of the fall season, so it is now wonder that their tournament was hosted on such a difficult course. In the end, Dorsey shot a respectable 80-81-161.
Her last tournament was the inaugural Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational. Pat is one of the best golfers in Seattle University history, winning the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 1955. When Pat played for Seattle University she played on the men’s team…a women’s team didn’t exist then. Dorsey started the tournament with a rocky, rollercoaster 77, with only two pars, six birdies, one double bogey, and nine bogeys. In the end, she tied for 43rd with a score of 77-83-79-239.
Stay tuned for the upcoming spring season, with tournaments in California, Arizona, and Georgia.
