Going back to Stage 1 of LPGA Q School at the Mission Hill Country Club was not one of Dorsey’s goals this past year, but if you have to go, it doesn’t hurt that you play some of your best golf of the season.
With a score of four under and a tie for 8th (out of 359 players), Dorsey advanced to Stage 2 of Q School for the third year in a row where she improved her Symetra status over the previous year, which should get her into more Symetra events in 2020.
Mission Hills and its two main courses (Dinah Shore and Arnold Palmer) seem to fit Dorsey’s game. She has always played them well over the years…even if the daily high temperatures hoover above 110 degrees!
Overall, Dorsey would tell you she hit the ball as good as ever this past season, and with just a few more putts dropping, her overall success would have looked much different.
“I’m encouraged by the way I played this year. It would be easy to view some of it negatively, but the positives keep me motivated and working hard. I can’t wait for the upcoming season,” she said.
Golf is a game of numbers, and here are a few from the season.
- 23 – tournaments played.
- 10 – Symetra events (one cut made, three missed cuts by one stroke, and one missed cut by two strokes).
- 37 – Stage 2 Q School spots better than previous year.
- -9 – best score and finish (second) of the year (Arnold Palmer course, Mission Hill CC).
- 73.96 – season scoring average.
- 268 yards – average driving distance.
- 78.9 percent – fairways hit.
- 67.5 percent – greens in regulation.
- 31.4 – putts per round.
- 16,000 – miles driven.
