This summer Dorsey played some of the best golf of her young career, ending on a golf high by playing in the 114th US Women’s Amateur Championship at the historic Nassau Country Club on Long Island, NY., where the Women’s Amateur was played 100 years ago.
The field included 156 of the best female amateur golfers from the US and 14 other countries. The event, two days of stroke play followed by match play elimination for the top 64 stroke-play competitors, was played at 6,297 yards (par 70). The course was set-up to typical USGA specifications…thick rough with hard, fast greens. Although Dorsey didn’t make the field of 64, her time there was truly special…and motivating!

Dorsey qualified for the Amateur at the famed Witch Hollow course at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club outside Portland, OR, where she shot a two-over 74 to tie for second, earning an invite to the US Women’s Amateur. At Pumpkin Ridge, Dorsey was in the first group of the day, which meant she had to spend the rest of the afternoon watching the live scoring on her phone as she moved up the leaderboard from 11th into a tie for second. It was an exciting, stressful, and crazy two and a half hours of waiting!
Before Pumpkin Ridge, Dorsey made the round of eight at the Pacific Northwest Women’s Amateur Championship (stroke and match play) at the Lewiston Country Club in Lewiston, ID (75-80-155 in stroke play). Before that, she took second in the Earl Hunt Memorial Tournament at the Whitefish Golf Club in Whitefish, MT (73-71-80–224).
After Pumpkin Ridge, Dorsey took second in the Montana State Women’s Amateur Championship for the second year in a row…losing by one stroke again (76-76-72-224).
Next up will be her second year of college golf at Seattle University, which she can’t wait to start. Enjoy some of the pictures I took from the US Women’s Amateur during Dorsey’s final practice round.
