On a Sunday, Dorsey graduated from Seattle University and the next day she was off to work. So long Seattle! Hello open road!
Within 24 hours of graduation, Dorsey was hitting golf balls under the watchful eye of elite instructor Gale Peterson at the Sea Island Golf Performance Center on St. Simons Island, GA. After ten days with Gale (at one of Dorsey’s favorite places), she was off for her first tournament of the summer, marking the start of her climb to professional golf.
First stop, hot and humid Orlando for a National Women’s Golf Association event at the Eagle Creek GC (6,485 yards). The NWGA is a mini-tour for female golfers who have turned pro, but it also accepts amateurs, which Dorsey will continue to be until later this summer.
On the first day, Dorsey’s round of 73 (par 72) was a direct result of all her hard work with Gale, which included shot visualization, swing and putting modifications, and a variety of new shots. It was a fun round to watch. A score of 74 on Day 2 kept Dorsey in the top 15. And on Day 3, a rough front nine of five over hurt her final score, but she finished strong by playing a flawless back, just missing numerous birdie putts. A final score of eight over for the tournament resulted in a tie for 22nd out of 37 players.
Up next, more work with Gale and then off to a US Women’s Amateur qualifier in North Carolina, followed by the North & South at Pinehurst, and then the Canadian Women’s Amateur. Enjoy these few pictures from graduation and the open road.
